“Follow your heart and you will never lose your way.”

What is even more astounding is that the next day he can get up and do exactly the same thing. And the next day.. and the next.

Dean is very inspirational so make sure you read the quotes further down and watch the videos.

History

Karnazes life began in Inglewood, California. His parents, Nick and Fran are of Greek origins.

Dean tells how he used to run as a 6 year old child, and then through his teens.

He stopped for a while. He had some pretty average times and even went through a period of drinking alcohol for a few years.

His sister died suddenly, when she was 18 years old. The quote at the beginning of this article is something that she said to him, and Dean has stated that he has lived those words ever since.

Everything came to a head one night when he was turning 30 years old.

He was in a bar and made the decision that enough was enough. He left the bar to go and run 30 miles to celebrate his 30th birthday.

Dean is famous for running 50 marathons, over 50 days, in all 50 US states.

What can we learn from Dean?

Dean has some very inspirational quotes - here are two of them.

“Struggling and suffering are the essence of a life worth living. If you’re not pushing yourself beyond the comfort zone, if you’re not demanding more from yourself - expanding and learning as you go - you’re choosing a numb existence. You’re denying yourself an extraordinary trip.”
― Dean Karnazes

“If you can’t run, then walk. And if you can’t walk, then crawl. Do what you have to do. Just keep moving forward and never, ever give up.”
― Dean Karnazes

We can also learn that having a healthy body is one thing, but you must eat properly and keep the mind healthy as well. Dean’s favorite food is wild pacific salmon.

Genetic or Learned Super Power?

What Dean has done is truly amazing and there does seem to be some kind of genetic difference in the way his body handles muscular recovery.

However, as there are other ultra marathon runners out there, we have to believe that this kind of amazing endurance could be replicated with the right training.

With that in mind we believe this is a learned super power.
